Say hello to Darlene Aspinwall.

Darlene Aspinwall is a homegrown artist whose creative curiosity spans fiber, textiles and—most passionately—ceramics. Her early work earned state recognition and awards for quilts and fiber art, and for more than twenty years she has focused her practice on clay. Darlene studied with a range of respected ceramicists, including Jessica Putnam Phillips, Lisa Name, Paula McCoy, Bill van Gilder, Sunshine Cobbs and Tim See.

A specialist in hand-building, she is equally at ease at the potter’s wheel. From her home studio she teaches both hand-building and wheel-throwing, having led classes in Cortland and Dryden, NY. Students praise her for a clear, stepwise approach to technique, a deep practical knowledge of the craft, and a warm, playful personality that makes her classes a favorite.

Darlene’s latest project is the renovation and opening of DMA Studio: an elegant gallery showcasing the work of local pottery artists alongside a thoughtfully curated selection of tools and glazes available for purchase. The space will feature locally wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces—ideal for collectors and casual shoppers alike—and serve as a welcoming hub for the region’s ceramic community.
